Deck stairs take a beating. They get more foot traffic than any other part of the deck, and they collect dirt, algae, and grime faster than you'd expect. Left alone long enough, that buildup starts to look like it belongs there - but it doesn't.
Here's what we were working with on this Freehold job. The stairs had that grey-green film that creeps in over time - the kind that makes wood and composite surfaces look old and neglected even when the structure itself is perfectly fine. The risers were chalky, the treads were dull, and the whole staircase just looked tired.
After we got in there with the power washer, the difference was immediate. The actual color of the composite came back - that warm brown tone you can see on the after side. The risers cleaned up sharp and bright. Even the deck surface at the top got a pass, and you can see the reflection of light off a clean, freshly washed platform.
That's the thing about deck cleaning that people underestimate. It's not just cosmetic. Algae and moisture buildup on stairs is a slip hazard. Regular cleaning keeps the surface safer and extends the life of the material - composite or wood. A clean deck also just makes the whole back of a house look sharper, which matters whether you're entertaining or just stepping outside in the morning.
We work all over Freehold and the surrounding areas. If your deck, stairs, or any outdoor surface has that same grey film starting to take over, this is exactly what we do.
