HISTORY
Victory Park was built on July 4, 1920, as a tribute to heroes of this community who served during World War I. Longtime Rumson natives, Mr. and Mrs. Bertram H. Borden made the park gift possible through donation of the property. Bertram H. Borden was the successor of Matthew Borden, a fabrics printing and iron magnate who resided in both the Upper East side of Manhattan, and in an iconic Rumson Estate. Bertram’s Rumson Estate (and his UES brownstone) were drawn up by the legendary architectural firm, Carrere & Hastings. This legendary building designer also completed work for the estates of the Rockefellars, Andrew Carnegie, JP Morgan Jr, and other very prominent American icons.
